Meetings to highlight objectives of WBKRDB

A meeting of the Kshetra (regional)  Committee of the Singamari-Tukvar-Singtam Kshetra was held  at no. 4 Tukvar, Limbu Busti on Sunday, November 13, 2016, to explain the aims and objectives of the West Bengal Khambu Rai Developement Board (WBKRDB).

Kirati Khambu Rai Sanskritik Sansthan (KKRSS) is the only Organisation of the Khambu Rais registerd in West Bengal. The Khambu Rai constitute the largest population of the Hill Tribe in West Bengal and KKRSS started functioning in the late eighties. The KKRSS has more than 400 sakhas (branches) spread over Darjeeling, Kurseong, Kalimpong, Terai and Dooars. The sakhas are combined and formed into Kshetra, Mahukuma and finally there is the Central Committee with its headquarters at Darjeeling.

The KKRSS was invited by the Hon’ble Chief Minister, Miss Mamata Banerjee to form the WBKRDB in February, 2016.

Accordingly a meeting of the Executive Committee of KKRSS was held on 09.02.2016 and names of the Executive and General Body of the Boards were proposed and was approved  by the West Bengal Government and published in the Kolkata Gazzette on 09.02.2016. The Developement Board started functioning immediately and the process of selection of beneficiaries started. The responsibility of selection of the beneficiaries was entrusted to the local Sakha which was then sent to the Ksetra/Mahakuma which recommended the names to the Central Committee of the KKRSS. Then only the Central Committee sent the names to the Developement Board for necessary action. Thus the selection process of the benficiaries went through three stages for ensuring that only the eligible got the benefit.

There have been interaction with members of the KKRSS regarding the aims and objectives  and process of working of the Developement  and in furtherance of this a meeting was held in Tukvar of the Singmari- Tukvar-Singtam Kshetra on 13.11.2016. The meeting was well attended by the members and there was a lively interaction with all the members.

Similarly a meeting of the Sukna Kshetra was held in the office of the Khambu Rai Developement Board on 12.02.2016. The meeting was attended by all the representative of seven Sakhas of Sukna Kshetra and all the aspects of the Developement Board was discussed.
