Darjeeling, November 29: A meeting was held today at GDNS, Darjeeling to discuss various matters of the Kirati Khambu Rai Sansthan (KKRSS) and West Bengal Khambu Rai Developement Board (WBKRDB).

The recent visit of the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Govt. of India’s Committee on Schedule Tribe, to Darjeeling was discussed and  detail of the presentation of the Khambu Rai and the field visit to Sittong was placed before the house.  The need to make all the Khambu Rais aware of their culture was stressed.

The Chairman of the Board enumerated the various schemes undertaken and the causes of delay of actual implementation of the Yalamber Khim. However it was pointed out that all the 500 Yalamber Khims will be ready by March 15, 2017 with the active participation of not only the Board Members but also all the members of the KKRSS.

Other activities like teaching of Rai Language which is in progress at some centers should be spread to cover all the areas of Darjeeling, Kurseong, Kalimpong, Terai and Dooars. Similarly the vanishing Sili dance should be taught in all these areas. The KKRSS should help locate these centers.

Candidates for deserving  final examinees and Career Guidance should also be selected on merit and need basis. This task was entrusted to the President and the General Secretary of the KKRSS.

Traditional Archery competition is being organised for which Dr.Pratap Rai for Darjeeling, Mr. Meghraj Rai for Kalimpong, Capt. M.B.Rai for Terai & Mr. Prasant Thulung for Dooars have been requested to organise preliminary competition and select teams for final tournament.

Nursery works are to be taken up at Rimbik, Gorubathan, Samsing and a few other localities so that we will be ready to do afforestation in the coming season. The beneficiaries should also be asked to plant atleast twenty plants each.

Avenues for skill developement should also be explored.

The matter of celebrating the coming Udhauli puja was also discussed with venues likely to be Kalimpong or Salugarah and the date to be finalised within December.

The meeting was attended by the President, General Secretary and other central committee members of the KKRSS and The Chairman, Vice Chairman, Executive Members,General Body members of the WB Khambu Rai Developement Board. Shri C.R. Rai Chief Patron, KKRSS and chief Advisor WBKRDB also attended and placed his valuable suggestions.

All the members showed their willingness to work together for the fulfillment of the Khambu Rais aspiration.
